What is the Science Olympiad?
http://soinc.org/mission describes the Mission and Goals of the Science Olympiad Organization.
The Science Olympiad is an inquiry-based program. Students will focus on applying science knowledge, engineering, and mathematical skills. Cross-grade level learning will emerge naturally as students focus on their event(s) of interest. Students will regularly meet on Mondays after school and on Wednesday and Friday. Small groups will work together to learn in-depth information about their event(s) in which they will complete. The group will develop skills necessary to be effective, and determine who will be responsible for various aspects of their event preparation. Each team member will bring his/her own knowledge, skills, and expertise in creative/collaborative problem solving. Teamwork is required in most scientific careers today. Science Olympiad encourages group learning by designing events that forge alliances. In Elevated Bridge, an engineering whiz and a kid from a wood shop can become gold medalists. In most events, up to 2 students for each team will work together in each event.
We are permitted to take 20 students with us the THE NORTHEAST GEORGIA SCIENCE OLYMPIAD FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. To determine which students will participate in this qualifying tournament, we will have 3 practice tournaments. These dates are on the school calendar and under the calendar tab from this site. At each practice tournament, we will showcase 6 (of 18) events. These 6 events are pre-determined. Winners from each event will go on to compete in qualifying tournament on March 28.
